Questions We Get Asked
About the walnuts
What is the difference between Forde and Chandler walnuts?
The Forde is crunchier with a robust, nutty flavor. The Chandler is mild and creamy with a little hint of bitterness. If you are ordering for the first time and cannot decide, a bag of each is the quickest way to find out which one is yours.
How are your walnuts different from other walnuts?
Two things. We farm regeneratively, for the health of the soil and to cut back on synthetic inputs. And freshness matters a great deal to us. Our walnuts are stored cold and handled carefully until they ship, so what reaches you tastes the way a fresh walnut should.
Are your walnuts organic?
No. We farm regeneratively, which means building healthy soil and keeping synthetic inputs, especially pesticides, to a minimum.
When will the new crop be available?
We harvest in October, and the new crop is usually in the shop by late November. Join our email list and we will let you know when it arrives.
Storing and using
What is the best way to store walnuts?
In the refrigerator for the short term, and in the freezer for the long term.
How do I use the walnut oil?
It is unrefined and pressed from our own walnuts, so it is best where you will taste it: vinaigrettes, a drizzle over a finished dish, bread dipping, low heat cooking, and baking. Keep the bottle in the refrigerator, where it stays liquid.
Ordering and delivery
How much is shipping?
Orders of $60 or more ship free, and every bulk box ships free. Orders under $60 ship for a flat $14.99 anywhere in the United States. If you are new to us, join our email list and your first order of $30 or more ships free.
How long will my order take to arrive?
Orders ship from our farm in Colusa, most by USPS Ground Advantage. West Coast orders usually arrive in two to three days, and East Coast orders in about five. Orders that reach us by about 10am Pacific usually go out the same day, and weekend orders go out the next weekday.
Do you ship outside the United States?
We ship within the United States.
What payment methods do you accept?
Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, and Diners Club, plus Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal.
What if my walnuts are not fresh?
Tell us within 30 days of delivery and we will replace them or refund you, whichever you prefer, and you keep what arrived. Our freshness guarantee has the details.
Bigger orders and gifts
Can I buy more than a pound?
Yes. Both varieties come in five, twelve, and twenty five pound boxes, and every bulk box ships free. The bulk boxes hold loose walnuts in one lined box, which is how we keep the price down. If one pound bags suit you better, add as many as you need to your cart.
Do you sell to restaurants, bakeries, or shops?
We do. Tell us roughly how much you use and how often, and we will come back with what we can do on price and delivery. Write to info@myharvestvalley.com.
Can I send an order as a present?
Yes. Enter the recipient's address at checkout and we will ship straight to them.
Where can I find you at a farmers market?
You will find us at the Chico Certified Farmers Market on Saturdays, at 2nd and Wall.
